Second, the child's regret at breaking her father's favorite mug is conveyed realistically, and the unfolding of the incident serves to enforce a message of family unity and trust. I have not seen the previous Honeycake books, but since I am a grandmother, I certainly plan to check them out as potential gifts!"

Honeycake: A Family of Spices
A Children's Picture Book About Diversity and Acceptance
Literary Titan Gold Winning Book
Studies show that supporting diversity in early childhood books is a two-pronged process: helping children to feel good about themselves, their families, and their communities, and also exposing children to differences, things that are unfamiliar, and experiences beyond their immediate lives. Research suggests adults who read books with diverse characters to their children will increase awareness, appreciation, and inclusion of diverse cultures.
WE WANT ALL KIDS TO SEE THEMSELVES REPRESENTED
Honeycake: A Family of Spices, the first book in Medea's Honeycake series, introduces readers to a diverse, multi-cultural family that is full of love. A grandmother explains why she calls her grandchildren "honeycakes" while she teaches her granddaughter, Nala, how to bake a honey cake.
Through imagination, the grandmother details how each delicious ingredient represents a different family member and his or her unique ethnic background.
This charming book also includes a recipe and step-by-step instructions on how to bake your own delicious batch of honey cake with your Honeycakes!
The Honeycake Series is a glimmer of HOPE and POSITIVITY, which will not only entertain, but it will educate, empower and enlighten children and their families for generations to come.
The valuable lesson that readers can expect from the first book in the Honeycake series is a strong message about diversity and acceptance. Caregivers can teach their children that, "even though we look different and come from different places, we are all part of one race...THE HUMAN RACE. In this beautiful world, we live in, WE ARE ALL ONE."
Readers give this book and series a 5.0 out of 5 stars!
"What an amazing book. My daughter is 8 and was delighted to read this book without hesitation. Sends such a beautiful message and discusses diversity. We then followed the recipe in the back of the book and created our own delicious honeycake! Can't wait to order the rest of the series!"
"A Delicious Lesson in Diversity!
"The entire premise of this book has me smiling from ear to ear. Kalantar artfully teaches not only acceptance of diversity, but the celebration of it. And what a delicious way to go about it! The metaphor of spices as people is inspired. Each of us has a unique contribution to our human family and our world. This is a great lesson for children and adults alike!"
"This book is a sweet story about a loving grandmother and her granddaughter. I enjoyed seeing a children's book with a family that has multiple cultures in it. It reflected my reality growing up and currently in my marriage. My teen son wanted to take a book and volunteer to read to kids in a lower grade. A Kindergarten class enjoyed reading time, listening to this story!"
It's the perfect gift for all teachers and children, preschool through grade 3. It helps caregivers and educators start an age-appropriate conversation about diversity by reflecting on what spices they are made up from that makes them unique-just like a honey cake.

A GREAT EXERCISE IN GRATITUDE FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN
"After reading Honeycake: Family of Spices, I fell in love with Nala and her grandma. I knew I had to read Honeycake: Counting All My Blessings by Medea Kalantar. Nala has been staying with her aunt and uncle while her parents are at the hospital. Her mom is about to have a baby. After the baby is born, Nala's aunt and uncle take her and her grandparents to the hospital for a visit. When they arrive, there are other relatives also there to see the new baby. Many have brought gifts. But Nala is having a difficult time with this change. Everyone seems to be giving the new baby more attention than her. And of course Nala wants to know why the baby gets so many presents and she isn't getting anything. When Nala cries out, grandma decides it's time to go outside for some fresh air. Then grandma helps Nala talk through her feelings and gives Nala something special. The illustrations for Counting All My Blessings are bigger than in Family of Spices which will definitely help when reading to larger groups. Preschool is an age and when many children are adjusting to new siblings so it is a great time to read this book and talk through feelings of all kinds. For a home library, this would be a good book to read a few times before a new baby arrives. I especially like how not only did the font size change, but also the text color changed when Nala was speaking with bigger feelings."
It's the perfect gift for all teachers and children, preschool through grade 3. It helps caregivers and educators start an age-appropriate conversation on the importance of gratitude and help children cope with a range of emotions and teach them that they indeed hold the power to choose their actions and reactions.

Honeycake: Special Magical Powers
Honeycake: Special Magical Powers - A Children's Picture Book About Kindness, Compassion and Empathy
Literary Titan Gold Winning Book
Kindness is a gift we can all afford to give. Though it doesn't cost a thing, your kindness can mean everything to another person.
Could you imagine how much nicer the world would be if everyone smiled at each other or did a random act of kindness every day? We are kind when we use our manners by saying please and thank you, or by opening a door, or by giving our seat on a bus or train to a stranger in need.
HAPPY, CARING CHILDREN
The good feelings that we experience when being kind are produced by endorphins. They activate areas of the brain that are associated with pleasure, social connection, and trust. These feelings of joyfulness are proven to be contagious, encouraging more kind behavior (also known as altruism) by the giver and recipient. Acts of kindness help us form connections with others which are reported to be a strong factor in increasing happiness.
Kindness is a key ingredient that enhances positivity and helps children feel good about themselves as it increases serotonin levels. This important chemical affects learning, memory, mood, sleep, health, and digestion. Children with a positive outlook have greater attention spans, more willingness to learn, and better creative thinking to improve results at school.
In the third installment in the charming Honeycake Series, Nala brings her outgrown toys and clothes to Rainbow Hall, and spends the day with her Grandma and Uncle JD discovering a special magical power we all have called ✨KINDNESS✨
Nala, learns the value of kindness and giving to others in this sweetheart of a story! As Nala states "being kind is like sprinkling a little bit of magic everywhere you go!" This sweet, cheerful book uplifts this message, and even better, it shows kids that they have power in their lives and they can be a positive force in their communities.
Readers give this book and series a 5.0 out of 5 stars!
KINDNESS IS SO IMPORTANT
"After reading 'Honeycake: Special Magical Powers', me and my 5 year old son took the time to reflect on our most memorable acts of kindness. My son was so happy to learn that he had been using his magical powers all along. The story was so well written with an easy to follow storyline that kept my son intrigued from start to finish. He usually falls asleep mid-story but tonight, he wanted to know how this story ended. I asked him what he liked most about the book, and he said, "when Nala shared her toys with the kids that lost theirs in the fire." He loved the book and promises to use more of his magical powers to put a smile on other kids faces. I highly recommended this book to all families as it teaches our children the importance of caring, sharing and of course, kindness."
It's the perfect gift for all teachers and children, preschool through grade 3. It helps caregivers and educators start an age-appropriate conversation on how kindness is caring about others and doing things to help make their lives better. Which allows us to connect with other people and build meaningful relationships. Sometimes we just need a little inspiration to spread some love and kindness in the world and Honeycake: Special Magical Powers does that perfectly!
