Red Mountain
"Best book I've read in over 50 years...since A Tree Grows in Brooklyn." —LibraMystic
A Pulpwood Queens Book Club Selection
How well do we really know each other?
Red Mountain in eastern Washington is home to a community of eccentrics.
Otis Till, the area's visionary winemaker, has been known to howl at the moon—fully nude.
Single mother Margot Pierce moved across the country to build an inn, but so far all she does is binge on gelato, the Hallmark Channel, and fantasies of murdering her ex.
High school senior Emilia Forester is the daughter of celebrity parents struggling to build her own life outside of their shadow.
And Brooks Baker is a man haunted by his past spent living on the streets as an orphan. Somehow, everyone lives together harmoniously, their lives intertwined like the vines in Red Mountain's beautiful and renowned vineyards.
But in a place where everyone knows each other, secrets are like poison...and right now Otis, Margot, Emilia, and Brooks all have something to hide. When their secrets come to light and dysfunction ignites, will their small mountain be stronger for it—or will lives be torn apart?
Heartfelt, briskly paced, and wonderfully descriptive, Red Mountain is the story of four complicated people living in a beautiful landscape unlike anywhere else. Told from multiple perspectives and rich with vivid descriptions of wine life, this novel will transport you from the first page to the last.
Author Bio:
After picking the five-string banjo in Charleston and Nashville and then a few years toying with Wall Street, Boo chased a wine dream across the country to Red Mountain in eastern Washington with his dog, Tully Mars. They landed in a double-wide trailer on five acres of vines, where Boo grew out a handlebar mustache, bought a horse, and took a job working for the Hedges family, who taught him the art of farming and the old world philosophies of wine. Recently leaving their farm on Red Mountain, Boo and his family are back on the east coast in St. Pete, Florida. As he wraps up the second book of the Red Mountain series, he's got his eyes and ears open, building his next cast of characters. No doubt the Sunshine City will be host to the next few novels. Boo's novels are instilled with the culture of the places he's lived, the characters he's encountered, and a passion for unexpected adventure.

Red Mountain Burning
Why must all good things come to an end?
In Washington State wine country, Red Mountain is a refuge for searchers and wanderers, artists and lovers, farmers and chefs--people looking for a place to belong. Despite the stunning landscape, the world-class wines, and their best efforts, the eccentric inhabitants often attract trouble.
Brooks Baker, the man with the most broken of pasts, craves stability, but he's forced into making a tough decision when the woman he loves considers a move to Florida.
Margot Pierce, the dream chaser and innkeeper who fled Vermont to escape her first marriage, faces a new challenge when her fianc 's estranged daughter comes to town.
Otis Till, the grapefather, knows it's time to hand over the reins to the new guard of Red Mountain. But he wants just one last great vintage before he goes.
Red Mountain Burning is the third and final book in the story of the many souls fighting to make their small wine-growing region thrive amidst a world of dysfunction and chaos. Are they strong enough to endure the many fires of the coming vintage or will Red Mountain go down in flames?

Red Mountain Rising
What do you do when it all comes crashing down?
*A Pulpwood Queens Book Club Selection
Boo Walker has returned to wine country for the sequel to his powerful, best-selling novel, Red Mountain. Join four wildly colorful characters as they search for life, love, and meaning in a tiny wine-growing region in the desert of eastern Washington State.
Otis Till, the grapefather of Red Mountain, has regained his senses of smell and sight, but his vision of what Red Mountain should be is now threatened by a greedy landowner.
Margot Pierce has finally opened her French inn, but as her son leaves for college and her boyfriend says goodbye, she realizes how lonely her world could possibly become. Can she stomach the trials of going back on the dating market, even if that means finding him online?
Brooks Baker's engagement has fallen apart, so he's alone again, despite having reconnected with his biological family. Will he ever find real love on the mountain? Will having his family nearby deliver the fairy tale he'd hoped for?
Adriana Hernandez has changed her name and escaped to Red Mountain with her young son to hide from their previous life in California. Can they find some sense of belonging here? Or will they have to run forever?
Red Mountain Rising will drop you into the often-dysfunctional, small-town lives of farmers, chefs, winemakers, artists, and runaways as they do their best to push aside their differences with one another for the collective good of Red Mountain. Will their dissimilarities be too great to survive what's coming?
Told from four different perspectives, the rich stories of Red Mountain will leave you scrambling for a plane ticket to visit this extraordinary piece of land and meet its inhabitants.

Red Sky Hill
A local businessman is found tortured to death at the foot of Ohio's infamous Red Sky Hill. No one heard his screams. No one came to help.
Detective Jake Cashen catches the case that terrifies his small town. In his fifteen years as an investigator, Jake's never seen a more gruesome crime scene. The victim, Craig Albright has no known enemies but the site of his murder has been shrouded in secrets and myths for generations.
On the other side of Red Sky Hill lies a secretive settlement known to locals as "the Hill People." Many fear there are untold numbers in the cloistered community and that they're armed to the teeth. Census takers and tax collectors have been run off for years. Suspicion in town runs rampant and Jake fears vigilante justice will take hold before he can solve the crime. But he knows the key to unraveling the truth and stopping a ruthless killer will force him to go up that hill once and for all. Alone.
What he finds when he gets there shakes him to his core.

What if Mr. Bennet died in a duel with Wickham after Lydia eloped, just as Mrs. Bennet feared? Would Elizabeth and Darcy still find their happily-ever-after if the Bennet women lost their reputation and their home? Nearly four months ago, Elizabeth Bennet hotly rejected Fitzwilliam Darcy’s marriage proposal. Now she wonders if that was the biggest mistake of her life. Orphaned and living with her Aunt and Uncle Gardiner in London, Elizabeth is determined to take a position as a governess or companion; Darcy could never renew his attentions to her after her family’s disgrace. Which is a shame because she just may be in love with him.
Fitzwilliam Darcy would do anything for Elizabeth. As soon as he learned of Lydia Bennet’s elopement, he rushed to London to try to put everything to rights. But his journey was fruitless: Mr. Bennet died of his wounds before Darcy could bring a doctor. Now, he must convince Elizabeth to forgive and marry him before she is beyond his reach forever.
When an illegitimate child makes Lydia’s shame complete, Elizabeth and Darcy are left to try to salvage what is left of their reputations and relationship. Running with Grace: A Wall Street Insider's Path to True Leadership, a Purposeful Life, and Joy in the Face of Adversity

Running with Grace is [Lori Van Dusen's] story of triumphs and defeats, told to inspire the reader to never give up. -Readers' Favorite
Nothing about Lori Van Dusen's childhood indicated she'd become one of the nation's top independent financial advisors. She was born prematurely on the wrong side of the tracks and with a genetic blood disorder. Her parents divorced when she and her twin brother were less than a year old. But her big, boisterous, loving Italian family, led by her beloved grandfather, a first-generation American with only an eighth-grade education, taught her that the only limitations in life are those we impose on ourselves.
As a young person, Lori wanted to sing on Broadway, not manage money on Wall Street. But in 1986, this quiet, serious young woman walked into the rough-and-tumble, eat-what-you-kill world of Shearson Lehman Brothers and never looked back. She fought her way to the top by thinking outside the box and working her ass off despite the jeers, insults, and sideways glances. Her secret weapon? A need to prove herself so strong she could outwork anyone.
But Lori's trajectory to the top was not a straight, upward line; it was a rollercoaster. She hit the pinnacle of success only to have it ripped away in a legal battle with one of the biggest banks in the world. She was raped by a PhD candidate at Harvard, swindled by a business partner, and battled two life-altering medical diagnoses. None of that, though, would compare to having the two people she loved most in the world taken way too soon.
Despite the fear and pain, Lori remained hopeful and resilient. In this memorable, poignant, and inspiring memoir, she shares her lowest lows and highest highs as well as hard-earned wisdom from her bumpy personal, professional, and spiritual journey. Life was never meant to be fair, she learned, but we must keep running with grace if we are to find purpose and joy in the face of adversity.

Running with Horses: Daily Devotions to Inspire Bold Confidence in God
When life races with chaos and uncertainty, run beyond your fear with bold faith.
Humanly speaking, we are no match for a horse's strength or speed. But "the hand of the Lord came upon Elijah," and the prophet was able to outrun Ahab's royal chariot on the long streak from Mount Carmel to Jezreel (1 Kings 18).
In the same way, personal relationship with Almighty God inspires and empowers us to accomplish great exploits we never thought possible and, like Elijah, to deliver something of prophetic value to the culture and the world.
Running with Horses is a volume of daily writings exhorting every individual this way-to expect impossible outcomes, even supernatural interventions. Inspired this way, when the pace speeds up in the sphere to which you are called, you run ahead of anything believed possible.
Like all of creation, you were born with a specific design and purpose. Yours, I am convinced, is for this no-holds-barred day, for this prophetic time.
Whether days of peace or trouble, you were born for this time.

Sasha vs the Whole Wide World (and Dragons)
Eighteen-year-old Sasha Clems didn't mean to steal a seadragon's magic. Or err... More correctly, she did. She just didn't mean to get caught.
Sasha is tired of being poor. Tired of foreclosure notices tacked to her family's fridge, tired of working four jobs, tired of dreaming about college rather than attending.
When one morning she witnesses a dying seadragon expel its magic in the form of a basketball-sized jewel, she grabs it. The last time this happened, the jewel sold in the high nine-figures, but only after a kidnapping, three deaths, and an international manhunt by the Magic-Handlers' Alliance.
No reward without a little risk.
Sasha bolts off on a cross-country race to the single person she trusts to help auction off the jewel. Chasing her is the government, the Magic-Handler's Alliance, more dragons, and the hottest teenage magician on the face of the planet.
Even worse, the more Sasha discovers about the world of magic and the nature of the seadragon itself, the more she realizes there are things and people that just might be more important than money.
Maybe...? Because Sasha is really done with being poor.
It boils down to not just outracing her pursuers but confronting just how far she's willing to let her own moral compass slide.

Savage Grace: A Sydney Rye Mystery
Gripping the test in my hand, I can't stop staring at the blue cross in the window.
Tears roll, hot and slow, down my cheeks. I huddle in a low ball, emotion bowing me. My dog, Blue, whines and presses against my side, his warm tongue laving my cheek, his musky scent enveloping me. A familiar comfort.
Will my child love Blue as I do?
My phone vibrates on the bathroom counter, and I hiccup a sob. Squeezing my eyes shut, pressing more tears free, I hold my breath. Blood rushes in my ears, and my heart throbs in my chest...a tidal wave is washing me away. I can't do this.
The soft ping of a voicemail brings my eyes open. I'm staring at the cross again.
Blue shifts closer, leaning his warm weight against me. As tall as a Great Dane, with the elegant snout of a collie, the markings of a wolf, and mismatched eyes-one blue the other brown-Blue means the world to me.
My heart will have to make room for more.
Fear slices through me, adrenaline flooding my veins and bringing another soft whine from Blue. Standing quickly, the adrenaline demanding action, I glance at my phone.
Robert Maxim.
He can't know. My eyes trace to the trash can of the hotel bathroom. Wrap up the test and put it in there.
But my hand won't follow the advice. My fingers grip tighter, refusing to release the small wand of plastic. The proof. The truth.
Grabbing my phone off the counter, I step back into the hotel room. Blue stays close to my hip, his nose tapping my waist once, a gentle reminder he is there.
I shove the plastic wand into my bag, pushing it into a zipper interior pocket and closing it up. Locking it away.
Just throw it out.
I can't.
My hand strays to my stomach, and Blue's nose swipes against my fingers. Vision blurred with tears, I stand in the center of the hotel room, my mind reeling. Lightning sizzles across my vision, and thunder ricochets inside my mind.
I'm not cut out for motherhood.I know I'll survive. It's everyone I love who dies.
That changes now.
P.S. The dog does not die.

Saxon Heroines: A Northumbrian Novel
"[A] brilliant recreation of the lives of inspiring heroines from seventh-century Northumbria." —Readers' Favorite
Perfect for fans of Philippa Gregory's The White Queen and Sandra Gulland's The Many Lives & Secret Sorrows of Josephine B.
Seventh century England is a hodgepodge of warring Anglo-Saxon states filled with shifting alliances and treacherous grabs for royal power. Kings rise and fall, depending on Woden's Luck. Northumbria, the damp kingdom north of the River Humber, is a state riven with rivalries and kings determined to expand at any cost.
Women have no obvious role in a warrior society, but by using their wits, four women—two queens and two abbesses—make monumental changes. One woman marries a pagan king and successfully converts him to Christianity before he dies in battle. One becomes the most powerful abbess in Northumbria and holds the Great Synod at Whitby Abbey, which brings the kingdom back to the Roman Church. Another becomes queen and keeps political alliances strong despite different religious denominations. The fourth woman ushers in a new age by negotiating with kings and churchmen to establish one united church in the Northumbrian kingdom.
Based on true events and people, this is the story of Northumbria through the eyes of the most important women of their time.
