Highly recommended for the personal reading lists of readers with an interest in western action/adventure sagas." —Midwest Book Reviews

It's 1904 and a young man sets out to discover what happened to his mother's brother who, as a ten-year-old boy, was kidnapped by Comanches thirty-four years before.
Harry Bonner encounters the rugged canyons and prairies of New Mexico and Texas, where the land, people, and cultures challenge his upbringing as a privileged child of a wealthy Missouri family. He battles Comanche magic, puzzles his way through strange dreams giving glimpses of his mysterious uncle, and suffers the brutality of men terrorizing the Texas countryside, all while being consumed by a new-found love in the unlikeliest of people.
When that love is taken from him, Harry explodes with violence and rage. His revenge is complete but is emotionally adrift when he is suddenly thrown into the last episode of his uncle's life.
Author Bio:
An award-winning author of fourteen books, Don Willerton has set most of his novels against the mountains, rivers, and canyons of the American West. Raised in the Panhandle of Texas, he picnicked where Kit Carson led his troops to the first battle of Adobe Walls in 1864, hunted arrowheads along the Canadian River, walked in swales made by pioneer wagons more than a hundred and fifty years ago, and adventured in the canyons of the Palo Duro. He has remained fascinated with the history of the Southwest and the people who made it.
After a science degree in Texas, graduate work in Wyoming, and another degree in New Mexico, Willerton established his home in Los Alamos, working over the years as a physicist, computer programmer, manager, and information security leader. Along the way, he built a house, restored cars, backpacked in the mountains, rafted rivers, and helped raise three sons. Writing since the 1990s, he has produced ten books of the Mogi Franklin Mystery Series, which combines Southwest landscapes, history, and lore to create mysteries involving a middle-grade sleuth and his older sister; a supernatural suspense novel centered around an abandoned house that has a personality; a thriller combining the two problems of homelessness and ocean pollution; and a WWII novel of a young man's war experiences set against the breakdown of his family life, based on the war itinerary of Willerton's father.

Whispers in a Phone Booth: A Depression-Era Tale of Danger and Deception
As World War I ravages Europe, two beautiful and courageous sisters make a miraculous escape to America from their bitter lives in Poland, thanks to their selfless mother. They settle with their aunt in an immigrant enclave on the north side of Chicago. It's the same neighborhood where two gifted young men, a steelworker and a pharmacist, proceeded them just as war exploded upon the Continent.
Soon the sisters' lives diverge. In the midst of the Great Depression and after sixteen years of estrangement, Martha unexpectedly sends Helen a letter suspiciously offering reconciliation, returning to visit Chicago. Helen's bored and rebellious teenage son, Wally, quickly falls under the captivating spell of his mysterious and glamorous aunt.
After Martha's visit, the neighborhood is beset by two perfect, high-profile robberies, leaving the police baffled. Only secrets whispered in a pharmacy's phone booth, if shared in time, might save Martha, Wally, and many others from the very incarnation of evil. But can the enigmatic outcast who overhears the secrets, accept the devastating personal consequences of letting the whole truth become known?

The Vintner's Legacy
In this gripping, international best-selling sequel to The Vintner’s Daughter and The California Wife, four related families confront the turmoil of the First World War, a deadly influenza epidemic and a looming American prohibition.
France, 1918. Vintner Luc Lemieux enters the fight as his fellow Americans join forces with the Allies. At his Vouvray vineyard, he leaves behind his grandparents and two parentless siblings rendered homeless by the advancing German troops. Meanwhile, his sister Adeline, serving as a surgical nurse on the front, makes the fateful decision to save an injured German medic who is struggling to reclaim his humanity during one of the deadliest wars in history.
Back in America, Sara and Phillippe Lemieux battle to save their Napa vineyard and world-renown wines from the blight of prohibition while their daughter Pippa Lemieux strives for independence as a devastating secret surrounding her birth is revealed.
From the pristine vineyards of California to the war-ravaged battlefields of France, from an army hospital in Juilly to the bustling streets of Manhattan as the city mobilizes for war, The Vintner’s Legacy is a vividly crafted testament to hope and the resilience of the human spirit, as experienced by four families whose daring and sacrifice will shape generations to come.

The California Wife
“This vital, sweeping story is delivered in Harnisch's silky, upscale prose. Much like a fine glass of wine, The California Wife is a highbrow indulgence that is tasteful, captivating, and heady.” ―The Globe and Mail
In the sweeping, poignant internationally bestselling sequel to The Vintner’s Daughter, the Lemieux family’s ambition to establish an American winemaking dynasty takes Sara and Philippe from pastoral Napa to the Paris World’s Fair and into the colorful heart of early 20th-century San Francisco.
It is 1897, and Sara and Philippe Lemieux, newly married and full of hope for the future, are determined to make Eagle’s Run, their Napa vineyard, into a world-renowned winemaking operation. But the swift arrival of the 20th century brings a host of obstacles they never dreamed of: price wars and the twin threats of phylloxera and Prohibition endanger the success of their business, and the fiercely independent Sara is reluctant to leave the fields behind for the new and strange role of wife and mother.
An invitation to the World’s Fair in 1900 comes just in time to revive the vineyard's prospects, and amid the jewel-colored wonders of Belle Époque Paris, Sara and Philippe’s passion is rekindled as well. But then family tragedy strikes, and, upon their return to California, a secret from Philippe’s past threatens to derail their hard-won happiness in one stroke.
Sara gains an ally when Marie Chevreau, her dear friend, arrives in San Francisco as the first female surgery student to be admitted to prestigious Cooper Medical College. Through Marie, Sara gets a glimpse of the glittering world of San Francisco’s high society, and she also forges friendships with local women’s rights advocates, inciting new tensions in her marriage. Philippe issues Sara an ultimatum: will she abandon the struggle for freedom to protect her family’s winemaking business, or will she ignore Philippe and campaign for a woman’s right to vote and earn a fair wage?
Fate has other plans in store in the spring of 1906, which brings with it a challenge unlike any other that the Lemieux family or their fellow Northern Californians have ever faced. Will the shadow of history overwhelm Sara and Philippe’s future, despite their love for each other? In The California Wife, Kristen Harnisch delivers a rich, romantic tale of wine, love, new beginnings, and a family’s determination to fight for what really matters.
More Reviews:
“Harnisch’s lyrical descriptions underscore the beauty of winemaking, political activism, and even surgery. Combined with her first novel, The California Wife feels like the second season of a period miniseries, best enjoyed with a glass of zinfandel.” ―Booklist
“Fans of historical fiction, heart-pounding romance, and remarkable women look no further. Kristen Harnisch…transports you back in time through engaging dialogue, complex characters, and vivid description.... An exquisite read from start to finish.” ―Alexandria Brown, Napa County Historical Society Research Librarian
“The California Wife is a vivid, fine-tuned novel about two fiercely ambitious and determined people who face obstacles that would bring most of us to our knees. Harnisch’s skillful blend of 19th-century societal norms and details about wine-making practices never overwhelm the characters but enrich them, captivating the heart. You'll long remember this beautiful story about redemption, forgiveness, love, and family bonds.” —Ann Weisgarber, author of The Promise and The Personal History of Rachel DuPree
“The California Wife is not only an accurate and nostalgic account of the early history of our wine industry in California, it’s a lovely novel with characters you want join in a harvest, a meal, and a glass of wine. I recommend this book to wine lovers and historical fiction fans alike!” —Tina Vierra, Associate Publisher, Wines & Vines

The Vintner's Daughter
“Lush and evocative, this novel brings the Loire Valley and its glorious vineyards to life in a story that will delight readers everywhere. Enjoy with your favorite glass of Merlot!” —Adriana Trigiani, bestselling author of The Shoemaker’s Wife
Loire Valley, 1895. Kristen Harnisch’s first internationally bestselling novel in The Vintner’s Daughter series immerses readers in the rich vineyard culture of both the Old and New Worlds, the burgeoning cities of late nineteenth-century America and a spirited heroine’s fight to determine her destiny.
When seventeen-year-old Sara Thibault’s father is killed in a mudslide, her mother sells their vineyard to a rival family whose eldest son marries Sara’s sister, Lydia. But a violent tragedy compels Sara and her sister to flee to New York, forcing Sara to put aside her dream to follow in her father’s footsteps as a master winemaker. Meanwhile, Philippe Lemieux has arrived in California with the ambition of owning the largest vineyard in Napa by 1900. When he receives word of his brother’s death in France, he resolves to bring the killer to justice. Sara has travelled to California in hopes of making her own way in the winemaking world. When she encounters Philippe in a Napa vineyard, they are instantly drawn to one another, but Sara knows he is the one man who could return her family’s vineyard to her―or send her straight to the guillotine. The Hard way Home
Dublin 1950
Liesl Bannon has never felt like she was truly at home anywhere, not since her mother placed her and her brother Erich on the last Kindertransport out of Berlin in 1939. She'd been so much more fortunate than most Jews, saved from the horrors of the Nazi regime. Being adopted by Elizabeth and Daniel Lieber meant she and Erich spent the war in Northern Ireland, safe and loved, but Liesl always knew something was missing.
When an opportunity to return to Berlin to represent her university presents itself, she is so torn. Should she go back to the city that rejected her and her family, would it be too harrowing, or would it feel like home?
In Berlin, a chance encounter with an old family friend sparked emotions for Liesl that she'd suppressed since she was a child. She finds herself desperately wanting to go back to those carefree days before Hitler, when life made sense, but why was her family so set against her return? Was it because they were worried about her as they claimed, or was there a darker, more sinister reason?
The Hard Way Home is the heart wrenching third book in the best-selling Star and the Shamrock series.

The Emerald Horizon
Berlin, 1944
Ariella Bannon is being hunted. Someone is determined to betray her as a Jew, but she has survived against incredible odds, and the end is in sight. She will be reunited with her precious children, no matter what it takes.
Meanwhile, Liesl and Erich have found a home in Ireland away from the chaos of war-ravaged Europe. As the dark news of what has happened to the Jews filters through, they are torn - love for their mother and their home on one hand, and the profound sense of peace and belonging they have in Ballycreggan on the other. Like all of the other children who escaped Nazi territory on the Kindertransport, they must wait to hear the fate of their loved ones.
For their foster parents, Elizabeth and Daniel, their dearest wish, that Ariella would survive the war, is also their deepest fear. Would her return mean the loss of the children they have come to think of as their own?
As the Third Reich crumbles under relentless Allied bombs, Ariella is careful, but Berlin is a very dangerous place to be, and somebody knows she survived. Can she take one last enormous risk to be reunited with Liesl and Erich or will her betrayer see her finally captured?
The Emerald Horizon is the long awaited sequel to the best-seller, The Star and the Shamrock.
